São Paulo – Brazil

You don’t need to speak the same language to understand one another. My first stop in São Paulo has taught me exactly that! My brazilian mother Nelly hardly speaks English and I say I speak pouco Portuguese – I say! Ha, but we understood each other exceptionally fine. She is one of the nicest ladies I have ever met. she told me that I was a blessing from God and having me with her has brought some light into her home. I almost cried – I lie, I did shed a tear. Little does she know that she was the light of my stay and that I will be forever grateful to her for her hospitality and her kind heart. My experience here will be full of memorabilia.

A little on the city. São Paulo is the New York of Sul America. It has fashion everywhere. It is noisy and the driving is insane(this is a little like Kenya). Everyone is dog walking and maintains a healthy lifestyle. It IS amazing what a little sun can do to a city. It just brings life!

Rui my kangaroo friend, and Lukas my not so little monkey showed me an awesome time here. Spontaneous, random and non stop laughter! A little bit like my trip in Lyon less the crazy taxi axe man and the random midget bouncer. From Vila Madalena – Faria Lima – Paulista, the party doesn’t stop. Even the German admitted that brazilians drink more beer than they do on an average.

The graffiti filled streets, capoeira in the parks and lots of samba filled nights with non stop flows of cachaca- I am in heaven- and to top it off, it’s unsurprisingly true that they do have the best caperinha’s here. The culture is completely chilled. Brazilians are never in a hurry nor do they worry much. Samba parties start as early as 4pm and finished as late as 5am. Let me set the scene a little, the room is huge and cosy, red green and yellow lights around with a live band playing samba music. There are 2 bars and beautiful people everywhere – ‘sambaing’. It is pretty surreal. People here don’t need to know the other to dance with them. Everyone dances with everyone and if you don’t know how to samba, your partner will teach you. You
fall into a rhythm, you feel the music and somehow your body adapts to it and voilà, you are dancing, like a true brasileira. – Jonas, Carlos and co introduced me to this.
Dom Pedro knew that he had hit jackpot with Brazil.
Next stop? RIOOOOOOOOO!!!!
