I get on the plane and a smelly man sitting next to me realises that I don’t speak Spanish. Oh great he wants to practice his English and I’m tired. I didn’t get much sleep there. Secondly, I get of my uncomfortable seat and get sniffed down by a security dog. The Security guard starts asking me questions super fast in Spanish I have a complete blank face. He starts to get angry and yells slowly?!? Luckily another guy starts translating, ‘Do you have medicines in your bag?’- Yes. I had to go to another room and get searched. I am not liking this.
I then wait over 2 hours in immigration and get to my bags. Sniffed down again I realise I have left my key for my bag ( which they want to open) in the taxi. Fair enough they break the lock and search my bag. Out of frustration I completely break it and my other bag gets searched. I’m sooo frustrated and this isn’t a good start to my trip. Desperate to get to my friends place I waste no time and get to him. I am so relieved to see a familiar face, I relaxed for 5 minutes, jump in and out of the shower and head over to Starbucks and then dinner with his friends. There I ate mexican food (duh) and tried mezcal ( it’s like tequila and its gross but everyone loves it) as well as clamato that’s is a tomato juice with beer. That I liked.
After eating yummy food we went back home and got ready for the next day. We were flying out to Puerto Escondido. I had never heard of this place, but I wanted something fun, adventurous and exciting. On landing we had no place to stay so we split the cab with 2 American guys and went to their hotel. It’s hot and humid and I still haven’t fully recovered from the day before. That evening both of us were pretty tired so we ad a couple of drinks, chilled and an early night in.
The next morning, it started pouring. It was super hot and barefoot(the whole trip I was barefoot) we walked around looking for adventure. We found happy medicine and went to a lagoon to go canoeing. We went round in circles, aruged a few times who was the worse at pedalling and ended up onto an island. We saw an island full of birds and just messed around. At around 7 or 8 ish one guy told us that we were fortunate to be at the lagoon as at night this season round, we get to see fluorescent plankton’s. We had briefly heard about this but had no expectations. Both of us said DONE and took the boat into the lagoon. Pitch black at night all I could hear was the voice of my friend speaking to the boatman and the noise of the engine. That soon faded out as soon as the waters turned blue green colours when in contact with the boat. As i paid closer attention in amaze, I could see sardines in the water that shot out looking like bullets of colour They were glowing, it was amazing and it was CRAZY!. We felt like children. Shaking our hands in the water, clapping the water so we would get a flash of colour look at each other with a ‘Did u see that??’ excited face!! We had too.. A little nervous, we jumped. We were glowing. I know it sounds unreal but it’s the truth. It was unbelievable and no it wasn’t any effect from our happy stage.
The night ended perfect as we went back got food and sort of reflected on the day.
The next day we went wake-boarding and Giuseppe went first. We both were surprised at how good he was. He made it look too easy. Heck I got on the board and started flipping jumping going crazy. Ha I wish. I couldn’t even stand!!!! Lol thankgod my camera ran out of battery to save my from embarrassment.
After that, we went to a different beach and had lunch (Mexican ceviche with taco shells) and just relaxed. We found another bit of the beach where were secluded and watched fishermen get oysters and the perfect view to watch surfers too.
That evening the state was dry ( due to elections, they stop selling alcohol for the weekend so people can vote with a clear mind I guess) However, our clamato came discretely and we were happy.
Most evenings we either sat on the beach, caught up on old stories from London or shared future expectations of us. It was relaxing. Rumour (or my friend supposedly saying) has it that this place has whales and all sorts unfortunately it wasn’t the season for this.
We instead opted to go to another beach an hour away and look for adventure. We took a local bus then a random taxi driver stopped and asked if we wanted to go to the beach. We went in. On the way the taxi stops and picks a man with a massive machete and allows him into the car. The first thing he says in Spanish was ‘he is dead‘. Luckily I don’t understand and that Giuseppe didn’t translate. Instead he started talking to him and making him a friend. We then stopped at the beach and he offered to take us to see crocodiles on his boat. With the machete in His hand we couldn’t say no -there DONE.
This was cool. The waters were green, we had trees everywhere, loads of birds, I think almost 142 species of birds present and huuuuggeeee pelicans and seagulls and dinosaur looking birds. The birds were huuugeeeee. After 40 minutes or so on the boat we got to this little village where only 25 families live. Right inside, there was a crocodile sanctuary and we were amazed. We learnt so much about them and it was a cool experience.

Lets go to the beach and have lunch get happy and relax. Done. We ate, relaxed and the ride back we flew. I couldn’t have asked for a better day.
That evening was relaxed. Beach bar, good dinner, good conversation more clamato and ready for the next day to get back to Mexico City.

On our arrival, we got home and just rested. That evening we wen to see The Great Gasby and both of us at some point fell asleep.
After a good night sleep, the next day I went to meet an amazing girl Junueth. She took me to eat the most local food ever, yummmmmmyyyyyy then we went to a bakery and bought chocolate truffles and right over to pick her lovely sister Fabiola and then to the local market to buy some last minute stuff.

The girls on the side sell scarfs and jewellery. That evening I became one of them and did the same. I had so much fun dressing and talking to them.
I have realised that girls are so similar, the way we think, the things we do, the conversations we have. They are probably the first routed Mexican girls iv met but we had so much fun so much in common.
Junueth said something like ‘North of Mexico isn’t safe because there are 2 drug lords fighting for territory, I don’t understand, why can’t they share the love and drugs‘ she was so innocent in saying this but it showed her personality. She was fun, free spirited and wants to grow.

Today is my last day. I’m in Starbucks waiting for my friend to finish work and I have mixed feelings about leaving. This has become me, this has made me, this has changed me. I will forever cherish what iv learnt, lost, gained and taught.
I’m not sure how to end this as it wouldn’t be a true reflection. I have to pack my bag pack for the last time.
All in all I’m so glad to see my friends and families, share my stories and hear about what’s new with them.
