I am writing to you from Starbucks in Mexico City. I can clearly remember hating Lima when I first got there. The bus ride was amazing in the sense that you had your own little Android tablet to watch movies on and use the Internet. You had free wifi everywhere on the bus, comfortable seats and hot food. In fact Cruz Del Sul( the bus company) was even better than sitting on an aeroplane.
Lima was cold and cloudy, or I was just moody- Actually I was just moody. The hostel looked like CRAP and my room was above a soup kitchen or something like that, that smelt awful. Heck what did I expect? Of course it was going to smell and be crappy for paying almost nothing for the night. For 2 days I walked around and saw the centre (Which changed my mind about it) and the cathedrals and building. It started becoming more appealing and I started liking Lima a little bit more. I’m not going to say it was one of my favourite cities but it was cool.
The food in Lima…. To die for! I think most of my time here, I ate. 2 places in particular ( for the life of me, I can’t remember what they are called) but one was like TGIF with amazing food and a corona tipped into a margarita. The second was like hashmi. Yuuuuuummmm… I remembered my meat loving friends when eating.
My failed attempt to try leave the city one night forced me to move areas and into Milaflores. I saw a much richer side. My room was by the beach but it was still super cold.
I used my time here to just get a hold of the usual things I’d do. Eating frozen yogurt, yes they have Tutti Fruitie here!!! Went for a manicure/pedicure and in the evenings I went to small markets.
One evening I was in the mall and I saw a small little theme park place. It was awesome. I felt like a little child and went on the rides ate cotton candy and remembered being so happy. I felt happy being in Lima, I didn’t like it at first but it brought back memories that were not from there but reminders of my younger days (not like I am super old or anything) It felt nice, and for that I am grateful that I visited this city.
All in all, I was ready for some heat/ beach/adventure and everyone told me I couldn’t leave South America without going to Colombia. My converse go back in my bag and my havaiannas are placed on my nicely pedicured feet, I took the next flight out to Cartagena where I knew I was going to be reunited with old friends.
Colombia here I commmeeeeeeeeeeee…..
